My name is Dr. Silke Meermann; I am a small animal veterinarian in Bergkamen, Germany. After having graduated from Vet School in 2002, curiosity made me sign up for Veterinary Chiropractic with the former European Academy for Veterinary Chiropractic in 2004. In 2005 I completed both the EAVC and the IVCA-exams and have been an IVCA-member ever since. The way Chiropractic – and also Osteopathy and Physiotherapy – understand health and well being really has changed my life: Looking at things from a functional perspective instead of looking for names and diagnoses that tie an individual down to a disease or syndrome, really opened up my mind. As I have always been a „dog-person“, I took a small animal Physiotherapy Training and a Training in Structural Canine Osteopathy after that. At the same time I tried to learn as much as possible about different dog sports and behavioral training issues. This is where I met Christiane Gräff, a Human Physiotherapist and Osteopath with Special Training in Sports Physiotherapy – also dedicated to dogs. In countless talks and sessions we tried to combine our knowledge and fantasy – me coming from the Veterinary and Chiropractic Background – Christiane coming from the Human and Physiotherapeutic and Osteopathic side – to come up with osteopathic treatment techniques for dogs – and then put that together into our first book („Osteopathie bei Hunden“). The book is available as a hardcover textbook in German, it has also been translated into Spanish (Osteopatía en el perro). https://www.ulmer.de/usd-7118525/osteopathie-bei-hunden-.html As we saw – and still see – a lot of problems in connection with certain types of dog sports and the way dogs are trained, a couple of years later we felt the strong need for another Textbook on Sport Physiotherapy for dogs – this is how we came up with our second book („Sportphysiotherapie für Hunde“). It is also available as a hardcover textbook as well as an e-book. https://shop.thieme.de/Sportphysiotherapie-fuer-Hunde/9783132058712

Zitat einer Anwältin: Sehr geehrte Damen und Herren, die von Bundestierärztekammer und Bundesverband praktischer Tierärzte bestehende AG GOT hat sich in diversen Telefonkonferenzen mit Ihren Fragen beschäftigt. Die AG möchte betonen, dass sie kein Gremium ist, welches befugt ist, ein Gesetz rechtssicher zu kommentieren. Bei unklaren Formulierungen wird diese Aufgabe den Gerichten zufallen. Außerdem möchte die AG vorweg klarstellen, dass die neue GOT auf einem 10 Jahre altem Vorschlag beruht. Einiges in diesem hat sich zwischenzeitlich überholt, weswegen es weitere Vorschläge der AG von 2021 gibt, in dem viele Probleme nicht aufgetreten wären, der aber bedauerlicherweise keine Berücksichtigung finden konnte. Für außerordentliche Leistungen, die im Leistungsverzeichnis der GOT nicht enthalten sind, ist grundsätzlich nach § 8 der GOT zu verfahren. Es ist die Gebühr einer nach Schwierigkeit sowie zeitlichem wie technischem Aufwand vergleichbaren Leistung heranzuziehen. Bei zeitintensiven Verrichtungen, wie z.B. Verhaltensberatung und -therapie, Fütterungsberatung und Rationsgestaltung und Ähnlichem wären z.B. die im Kapitel 6 (Bestandsbetreuung) vorgesehenen Zeitgebühren pro angefangene 15 Minuten typische Vergleichsmaßstäbe. GOT_2022 Einige beispielhafte Nummern aus der neuen GOT: – orthopädische Untersuchung (834) – orthopädische Untersuchung eingehend ((835) – Eingehende Anamnese (2) – Allgemeine Untersuchung und Beratung Pferd (4) – Allgemeine Untersuchung und Beratung Hund (16) – Folgeuntersuchung Pferd (22) – Folgeuntersuchung Pferd (34) – Eingehende Untersuchung spezieller Organe (903) – Akupressur, Triggerpunktdiagnostik manuell (243) – Lahmheitsuntersuchung – Hausbesuch (40) – Lahmheitsuntersuchung Pferd (837) – Lahmheitsuntersuchung (836) Hausbesuch Pferd ist bei jedem Besuch (für jedes Pferd im Stall) Pflicht. Generell bitte die GOT einfach mal durchlesen. Da ist schon viel erklärt und am Ende sind auch einige Beispiele. {6}

TCVM (Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine) in general and acupuncture in particular, can be added as another treatment option to your toolbox. From 2021 the Chi University of Florida will offer courses in Germany. The lectures will be an E-Learning course taught in English by world-renowned acupuncturists like Dr. Huisheng Xie or Dr. Roger Clemmons to name only a few. The hands-on wet lab will be holding place in the beautiful south of Germany on three weekends. To get the most out of it and to be able to start practicing right after the first on-site session, the instructor to student ratio is 1 to 5. The main instructors for the on-site part are Lorena Lloret Nadal (DVM, CVA, CVBMA, CVFT, CVCH, CVTP), who is the director of Chi Europe and Imke Tratsis (DVM, CVA, veterinary chiropractor), who is the director of Chi Germany. The course language here is English as well, but they will help with any language barriers. The course is divided into 5 modules, two of them are online and three are hybrid courses. The 2021 CVA course will be starting May 15 and has to be booked completely, since the modules build up one upon the other. Dear IVCA Members, With deep regret,we announce that this year´s conference, that was to be held in Minneapolis, has been cancelled. We have rescheduled our conference for the same location next year for October 22-24, 2021. We would like to thank all of you that took the time to answer our survey. Unfortunately, the vast majority, about 80% said they would not come due to the uncertainty of the pandemic situation. We were also informed that it was highly unlikely that we could use the Leatherdale Equine Center at the University of MN for our equine labs, another big loss to our program. But please keep an eye on our communication with you as we are preparing a special CPD gift for our members, which will be announced in the near future! We will also be preparing to hold an on-line AGM, which will follow the regular protocol. Details are also to be announced! Wishing you are all keeping well and healthy, Sincerely, The IVCA Management Committee
PACE APPROVAL Great news for our IVCA US members! We have become PACE approved for all courses and classes recognized by the IVCA. PACE stands for Providers of Approved Continuing Education and this means that most of the US state boards accept the credits earned from PACE providers. This comes at a good time for the IVCA 2020 Annual Conference and Annual General Meeting to be held October 23-25 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. We will be offering 16 CEUs or CPDs at the conference. Please check your state’s requirements before submitting these credits. All approved courses, including international ones are PACE approved, so now you can travel for courses and earn credits! This also applies to online courses. ICCAC The International Certification Commission for Animal Chiropractic (ICCAC) is the new independent certification body of the IVCA. The ICCAC endeavors to establish the highest standards of competency in animal chiropractic care. We are very happy that Dr. Cottrell is willing to offer her time and knowledge for IVCA and the profession, and has put forward her candidacy for a position on the MC that will be voted on the AGM. Here is in her own word some of her background: “For 20 plus years I owned my human chiropractic practice, and was licensed in Arizona, Wisconsin, Washington, Illinois, and Minnesota U.S. I have been in Minnesota practicing for the last 18 years, the last 7 years as an animal chiropractor. I am a graduate of Northwestern Health Sciences University (Doctor of Chiropractic) and of Options for Animals School of Animal Chiropractic. My practice has been strictly animals, and I love it! My clients include equine, canine, and feline, plus a random additional species here and there. My practice has been quite good, in fact, October of this year was my biggest income month ever! Being on a governing board as such looks appealing to me at this time. There is much to be done in this growing field of animal chiropractic. And we need to uphold the professional requirements to make sure that we represent excellence in this field of study. One of my biggest frustrations has been having to acquire referrals from the veterinarians. For the most part, it is no problem, but I have encountered a few vets who refuse to cooperate for one reason or another. This is frustrating for my potential clients and myself, especially when I know how much chiropractic would help the animal(s) in question. I realize this is my state’s law, but other states require this as well. And I realize this may not be an area that is of concern to the IVCA, but perhaps there is something we can do to emphasize the professional status of chiropractors, like myself, who have invested many years in chiropractic school, plus the post graduate course to allow us certification to work on animals. On the other hand, having to send my reports to the vets has allowed me to educate them on the effectiveness of chiropractic care for our mutual clients. This has been valuable as now several vets in my area directly refer their clients to me, rather than us having to request referrals of them. So we are making progress! I respectfully submit my candidacy for a position on the MC board of the IVCA, and I look forward to the AGM in Dublin!” Dr. Claudia Cottrell Hermantown, Minnesota, USA
