Dr. Kyla grew up with horses and spent most of her youth working at her mother’s horse farm in Loretto, MN. She has been riding horses since before she could walk and she has always been passionate about animals. In her youth she was a member of North Star Pony Club and she is a “B” graduate. Dr. Kyla is an experienced rider and trainer and has ridden through the Grand Prix level in dressage and Preliminary level in eventing. She has had the opportunity to work extensively with a diverse mix of horsemen and women including Geunter Seidel, Betsy Steiner, Conrad Schumacher, Ralph Hill and Harry Whitney.
After experiencing the profound effects of chiropractic care in both the horses she rode and herself, she decided to pursue a chiropractic career. Dr. Kyla attended Northwestern Health Sciences University in Bloomington, MN where she completed her Bachelor of Science degree as well as Doctorate of Chiropractic degree with honors in 2006. She completed her animal chiropractic training at Options for Animals College of Animal Chiropractic in Wellsville, Kansas and is certified by both IVCA (International Veterinary Chiropractic Association) and the AVCA (American Veterinary Chiropractic Association). Dr. Kyla has also completed the Equine Rehabilitation Therapy Program at the Animal Rehab Institute in Loxahatchee, FL as well as training in equine massage therapy through Equinology. She developed an interest in myofascial release (MFR) and has taken MFR courses for both humans and animals. She has also been a guest instructor for the Equine Sport Medicine rotation for fourth year vet students at the University of Minnesota
Dr. Kyla specializes in providing chiropractic care for horses. She (is passionate about integrative care and) enjoys having the opportunity to work with veterinarians at the University of Minnesota when seeing patients at the Piper Equine Hospital. This collaborative practice not only benefits her patients, but it also affords her the opportunity to expose veterinary students to the value of an integrative approach and the benefits of chiropractic care. She has also developed an innovative equine chiropractic approach and technique, Postural Balancing Technique, which is offered in CE courses through Alliance for Integrative Care. This approach invites the doctor to work closely with the horse, acknowledging the horse’s emotional state and working with the patient in a collaborative way. It incorporates MFR techniques in conjunction with engaging the patient’s muscle energy to facilitate the adjustment.
