Our former IVCA secretary Helga Thorwartl passed away on the 4th of October.Â
Helga started to build up a functioning IVCA secretary on the 29th of July 2006. She was a reliable partner for our members  and the school owners. Her calm, determined nature was always a great help for everyone involved in the IVCA.
To enjoy her retirement Helga gave the office in younger hands and handed over to Kirstin. Helga’s last years were marked by serious illness. On the 4th of October she has lost that fight and passed away. We will always keep her in honorable memory. Our sincere condolences go to her family.

I am an integrative veterinarian based in Vancouver, Canada. Hmmm, how did I end up here?
Shortly after obtaining my certification as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), I ventured into Small Animal Emergency Medicine. Before I realized it, I found myself to be the co-owner of an Emergency Clinic. I thought I had arrived and this was it! I worked long hours, enjoyed late night surgeries and the adrenaline rush of complicated internal medicine cases.
However, in a very short span of time, I started to somehow feel that I needed to do more than just dispense medication or perform surgery. There were cases that seemed immensely hopeless and frustrating– paralysis, pain management, intractable seizures and the list goes on...
As I ruminated on this seed of discontent that had crept in, I recognized that this was not burn-out, this was a deep desire to embark on a journey of Healing and of Wellness.
I took a year off to get certified in Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine and then there was no holding back. The Universe led me to Chiropractic, Canine rehabilitation, Regenerative Medicine, TCM Food Therapy, Clinical Nutrition and integrative oncology treatments like mistletoe therapy, ozone therapy and intravenous nutraceuticals.
I started a new practice called Phoenix Rising Integrative Veterinary Care and ten successful years later, here I am, incredibly happy to be on this amazing Journey of Healing and Wellness. I am grateful to have found and built a community of people that share my ideology on the well-being of pets.
I am immensely glad there are other veterinarians like me and chiropractors on this journey.

Dr. April Warhola is a family and animal chiropractor with offices located in Grant Park and Chattahoochee Hills, Georgia and also offers her services in Carbon County, Wyoming. Growing up with a grandfather and two uncles who are chiropractors, her work choice may have been predestined, but her unique gifts have certainly been evolving over a lifetime. Fulfilling her vision, Dr. April creates evolutionary chiropractic and vitalistic healing experiences that shift the way society views and participates in their health.
In 2007, Dr. April graduated and opened her first office with certifications in pediatric and pregnancy care, focusing on families and individuals who are seeking change in or striving for continual health. With a love for holistic living for herself and her animals, she found animal chiropractic and pursued that certification soon after, finishing her program in 2015.
The addition of adjusting animals to her ever growing human office has been such a joy! Animals teach us about the innate power and wisdom of the body and its capacity for healing. Chiropractic is, at the core, about keeping open communication and interconnection between the brain and the body via the nervous system. The Lifeforce within all living beings does most of the hard work, the chiropractor simply removes the interferences. An animal can’t tell you all the time where it hurts, but Dr. April’s well trained hands can palpate for the areas that need reintegrating, called subluxations, and with the adjustment, the animal will begin to change.
